BACnet International Annual Leadership Awards Presented in Orlando

Association Recognizes Leaders and Contributors in the BACnet International Community

Orlando, FL – February 9, 2025 – During the 2025 AHR Expo in Orlando, FL, BACnet International honored several distinguished members for their commendable service to BACnet International and the BACnet Community. The awards ceremony was held Sunday, February 9th, and was presided by BACnet International President and Managing Director Andy McMillan.

“BACnet International is proud to recognize the talented and dedicated individuals who have contributed to the BACnet community through their service and expertise,” stated President McMillan. “The BACnet Standard and its adoption would not be where it is today without the efforts of many individuals, including those we recognize this evening.”

The awards presented during BACnet International’s annual leadership reception and dinner include the BACneteer Service Award, the BACneteer Trailblazer Award, the BACnet Testing Laboratories Working Group (BTL-WG) Pillar Award, and the BACnet Lifetime Achievement Award.

The BACneteer Service Award: Kent Gorrie

The BACneteer Service Award is presented to an individual who has gone above and beyond in service to BACnet International’s goals and initiatives. This year’s award was given to Kent Gorrie, Reliable Controls. Through his expertise in web development, Kent has been integral in designing, maintaining, and improving the BTL Listing of Tested Products and providing invaluable technical support in the association’s projects.

The BACneteer Trailblazer Award: Coleman Brumley

The BACneteer Trailblazer is presented to an individual who has been innovative in furthering the evolvement and market adoption of the BACnet Standard. This year’s award was presented to Coleman Brumley, Passive Logic and Chair of the SSPC 135 Committee. Coleman has been instrumental in strengthening the partnership between the BTL-WG and the SSPC 135 Committee.

The BACnet Testing Laboratories Working Group (BTL-WG) Pillar Award: Patrice Hell

The BACnet Testing Laboratories Working Group (BTL-WG) Pillar Award is presented to an individual who has provided outstanding service and commitment to the BTL-WG and BACnet testing activities. This year’s award was presented to Patrice Hell, Sauter. Patrice has provided BTL with a B-AWS that was used to improve and expedite the process of designating new Recognized BACnet Testing Organizations. In addition, he has dedicated many hours of expertise and work items for the publication of Test Package 26.0.

BACnet Lifetime Achievement Award: Steven Bushby

The BACnet Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to an individual who has dedicated their career to promoting and advancing the adoption of the BACnet Standard. This year’s award was given to Steven Bushby, Group Leader, Mechanical Systems and Controls at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Steven was one of the first advocates of the BACnet protocol and is credited with developing and leading early BACnet testing efforts. He has also served as the Chair for the SSPC 135 Committee.
